Sam Kinsman is a Brown-educated economist who has spent more than a decade helping students figure out what makes them compelling — and then building the application that proves it. A Swiss, American, and Costa Rican citizen fluent in Spanish and German, Sam brings a global perspective that most consultants talk about but few have actually lived. His clients have been admitted to MIT, Yale, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Chicago, Brown, Cornell, USC, UCLA, and the London School of Economics.
Sam’s approach is structured and patient. He prefers long-term mentorship engagements — starting early, building relationships, and working at whatever pace keeps the student engaged without overwhelming them. The method is process-driven and high-accountability, but the energy is warm and unhurried. Sam listens before he advises, meets students where they are, and builds from there. One of his signature moves is helping students transform a passive classroom interest into something visible and self-directed — a website, a podcast, a research project — so that by the time applications arrive, the story tells itself.
Sam completed the full IB program in high school and graduated from Brown, where he studied economics and spent a semester abroad in Ghana studying international development. He has tutored the SAT for years and is deeply familiar with the IB system from personal experience. His deep areas include STEM, engineering, business and entrepreneurship, economics and data science, psychology, and linguistics. He handles eight to fifteen clients per cycle and is comfortable working across international time zones.
Sam works especially well with international students, ESL speakers, neurodiverse applicants, students on the autism spectrum, and anyone who needs a consultant who is supportive without being pushy. He is also effective with high achievers and perfectionists who need structure more than they need intensity. In addition to admissions consulting, Sam works as a holistic therapist and Authentic Relating workshop facilitator — roles built on the same skill he brings to every client conversation: helping people connect with what actually matters to them.
When Sam takes you on, the process feels managed from day one. That’s the point.
