Should I Retake 325 GRE for M7?

If you’re a typical M7 candidate, a 325 GRE is usually “good enough” and you retake only if your quant is soft for your pool or you’re hunting a scholarship edge. Concretely: if your GRE Quant is 160 or below and you’re applying from a quant-expected background (finance, engineering, analytics) or targeting quant-heavy programs (Booth, Sloan, Kellogg, Wharton), a retake is often a smart, low-risk upgrade. If your Quant is 163+ and your GPA/transcript already proves math competence (A/A- in stats, calc, econ, or a quantitative major), don’t burn cycles. The quick self-check: would a +3 to +6 point bump plausibly move you from “fine” to “credible” (or from “credible” to “no doubts”) in the one area adcoms might side-eye?

You’re not really deciding “is 325 enough for M7”; you’re deciding whether testing is the highest-ROI way to buy certainty in your profile. Treat it like portfolio construction: score plus transcript plus job function plus recommenders plus goals. If one of those is shaky, the GRE can be a cheap hedge. If everything else is strong, a retake is just expensive procrastination dressed as productivity. Ask yourself one uncomfortable question: are you retaking because it will change an admissions reader’s mind, or because it’s the only part of the application you can control without having to say something real about your leadership and goals?
