Patrick Fitz helps international and nontraditional students stop listing what they have done and start showing what they have learned from it — which is the difference between an application that checks boxes and one that changes a reader’s mind. He works with a small number of clients each cycle, and the results reflect it: Princeton, Stanford, Oxford, UPenn, Johns Hopkins, Tufts, NYU, Michigan, Georgia Tech, and near-full-ride scholarships at major public universities. He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, a dual MIA and MPH from Columbia, and has been a UPenn alumni interviewer for five years — which means he knows what the other side of the table is actually weighing.

Patrick’s path ran through six countries on four continents. He grew up in Western Pennsylvania, the first in his family to move abroad, and spent three years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Cameroon. He taught in Hong Kong, ran test prep and consulting in Dubai, and returned to Columbia for graduate school. He picked up a working knowledge of what it feels like to be the outsider in a system that was not built for them — the foundation of how he works with students. He is pursuing a TESOL certificate from UC Berkeley and working on AI governance.

His method is precise and structured. He calls it radical empathy: teaching students to read their own essays from the perspective of an admissions officer who has no context, no backstory, and no reason to give the benefit of the doubt. When a student writes about an accomplishment, Patrick pushes until the essay is about the insight behind it — what changed, what it cost, what it revealed. He uses blind reviews with other consultants to pressure-test narratives, runs creative brainstorming exercises, and edits at the sentence level. The process is organized, timeline-driven, and expects the student to show up prepared.

Patrick works especially well with international applicants navigating unfamiliar systems, ESL speakers whose written English does not yet match their thinking, first-generation students, students with heavy parent involvement, transfer applicants, students applying with gaps or difficult personal histories, and anyone who is overwhelmed by the process and needs someone who will impose structure without imposing a story that is not theirs.

Patrick sees each application the way a stranger in an admissions office will — no context, no goodwill, no second chances. He rebuilds it until that stranger cannot put it down. He is one of the sharpest and most globally experienced consultants on the roster, and the students who work with him learn something about their own story they carry well past the admissions cycle.
