Lauren Fang coaches pre-med high schoolers — including the BS/MD and BA/MD applicants tackling some of the most competitive combined programs in the country — and she does it from inside the arena, not from memory. She’s a Johns Hopkins biomedical engineer turned medical student, currently interviewing for residency. The application process her clients are sweating is the same one she finished a few years ago, and the next one she’s running is theirs. That kind of immediacy is rare in this work, and it’s the foundation of how she coaches.

Her own path made her useful here in a non-obvious way. Four years of research at Hopkins, the full pre-med curriculum, a minor in accounting and finance, then a stretch at a gene therapy biopharma company doing quality assurance and technology transfer — bench science, but the version that has to actually scale. From there to medical school, where she sits now. The arc taught her something most pre-med advisors miss: applications get won not by stacking lab hours but by showing the through-line that makes a fifteen-year-old’s resume look like the start of a real career, not a checklist.

The track record carries it. Vanderbilt. UPenn. Duke. Michigan. UC Berkeley. UCLA. Ten students through to the T25 across recent cycles, and the list is the proof of the method, not the trophy. She works school-list strategy with reach/target/safety calibration grounded in real GPA and test-score modeling. She mentors research projects past the application — journal submissions, conference posters, the structured external programs (Lumiere, Polygence, Horizon, Pioneer) that turn a curious kid into a credentialed one. And she navigates the operational edge cases most consultants stumble on: international transcript GPA conversions, BS/MD interview prep, and the strategic essays that move applications across decision tiers.

She’s especially good with applicants aiming at BS/MD or BA/MD combined programs, with research-track STEM students who want a mentor who’s actually published, with Chinese international students navigating US-application logistics in a second language, and with families building a multi-year mentorship plan rather than scrambling through senior year. She speaks intermediate Mandarin and works comfortably across that bridge.

Working with Lauren is direct and action-oriented. She follows up. She gives concrete feedback rather than vague encouragement. And because she’s still walking the doctor-track herself, she treats every applicant the way she would have wanted to be treated at fifteen: like someone whose plan is already serious, just earlier in the arc.
