Harvard University
A native New Yorker and graduate of Stuyvesant High School, Aviva Hakanoglu is an experienced teacher and mentor, passionate about a wide range of disciplines.
She received her Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Music from Harvard University, completing an honors thesis that combined the two fields. Her project incorporated visual art, organic chemistry, and music – specifically Bach’s Art of the Fugue – in order to explore Leibniz’s conception of perfection. Aviva then received a Master’s in Violin from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Violin Performance at Stony Brook University, where her quartet was selected to be part of the inaugural Emerson String Quartet Institute class.
Throughout her education, Aviva has served in many different mentorship capacities. While working on her Master’s, Aviva worked as a tutor for Indiana University’s Writing Tutorial Services, guiding students through a wide range of assignments, applications, and research projects. She is also a devoted violin instructor, working with students of all ages and levels. Aviva maintains an encouraging and demanding approach to students and their goals, always pushing them to aim higher and work harder.
When she is not playing violin or working with students, Aviva enjoys reading, cooking, and anything coffee-related.
