How do you make pairings?

March 20, 2025 :: admisdev

Our pairing process is driven by the anticipated outcomes for each individual client. We carefully consider which consultant is most likely to provide the greatest value and support to the client. Various factors come into play, such as the consultant’s area of interest, background, language/cultural familiarity, and even personality types. In some cases, we’ll pair a client interested in Finance or Consulting with a consultant whose background may lie elsewhere, if we know that that consultant has had the experience necessary to be most effective with this particular client type. Think about it for a second: the most seasoned MBA admissions consultants – regardless of their personal background – have typically helped a wide swath of clients whose career trajectories have run the gamut. The key lies in the experience level of the consultant, and their ability to administer effective guidance to just about ANY client, which we will determine on a case by case basis. It is not uncommon for a consultant to have more strength in certain disciplines and areas over others, but rare is the consultant (at Admissionado anyway) where expertise is limited only to one particular industry or school. We’re aware that such consultants exist – you just won’t find em here. It would be like having a personal trainer who only worked with males who weigh 185 pounds and have brown hair and tattoos on their left arm. Good for that guy to be a specialist, I guess, but, we prefer the trainers who are so good at their craft that their ideal client type is ‘Humans: inclusive.’

Also, just because some companies do it this strange other way: at Admissionado, we almost never choose to make pairings based solely on alignment around target school and consultant alma mater. While this is often a preference expressed by certain clients, it is not a particularly useful criterion for matching. Again, this is a function of our consultants possessing the kind of expertise in developing applications that extends to all top MBA programs across the board. We find admissions consulting badasses. It’s a better way to go, no? Our happy clients certainly think so.
