As the most selective public university in the U.S., the University of California – Los Angeles is getting a reputation as a “New Ivy,” and justifiably so. This massive school has something to offer every prospective student, from intense academic programs to a super fun campus life. Equal parts tradition and innovation, UCLA has secured its reputation as one of the best undergraduate schools on the West Coast.

Big Student Body

UCLA offers 127 majors and 3,600 undergraduate courses taught by 4,000 faculty. On top of that, there are over 800 student organizations on campus. That’s major.

Community Service

UCLA students take their responsibility to the world seriously, and the university lets students participate in service activities by combining volunteer opportunities with the academic curriculum. In the 2010-2011 school year, 28,000 UCLA students participated in some form of community service.

The Arts

With more than 1,000 arts events offered on campus annually, UCLA is a great place to study the arts. On any given night students can see a production by a professional or student company, check out a screening or gallery opening at the Hammer Museum, or get your art smarts on at a CultureFix talk at the Fowler museum.

Political Science

Political science is one of the most popular majors at UCLA. Students can elect to spend a quarter in Washington D.C. carrying out their own self-directed research project. Or, if they’d rather get hands-on experience, students can intern for credit in one of D.C.’s many government agencies, think tanks, NGOs, non-profits, media outlets, advocacy, trade, or business organizations.
