The regular decision deadlines seem to come at a particularly evil time. Instead of enjoying the holiday season, students (and their parents) have the added stress of college applications. It can often seem like a rush to the finish, but if you rush, there’s a chance you’ll make a careless mistake that could cost you big time. Read on for your last-minute college application checklist (with a little holiday whimsy).
How the Adcom Stole Christmas (and What You Can do About It)
Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot,
but the Adcom who set deadlines in January did not!
The Adcom doesn’t hate Christmas or the whole Christmas season;
They just need time to read applications, that’s the reason.
With the number of applicants booming each fall,
The number of adcom readers could be two sizes too small.
But before you sign on and click submit,
Read through our college application checklist.
First, proofread for any careless mistakes;
Spelling and grammar, there’s a lot at stake!
Make sure you’re using the right school names;
Spell check won’t catch this, so be on your game.
The last thing you want is for the Harvard adcom to read
That Yale is the only place where you want a degree.
Next, give your recommenders a call;
Make sure they’ve got what they need, forms and all.
Remind them of the deadline; keep them on track.
It’s your job to make sure they don’t slip through the cracks.
Last, do not wait until the deadline to submit;
A lot could go wrong in that last minute.
Servers may crash; Internet could be too slow.
And if your application is late, that’s a serious blow.
Once you’re finished, it’s time to put up your feet.
Nap, watch Netflix, eat leftover roast beast.
