Hope Kudo

Hope Kudo is a United Nations Millennium Fellow and Gates Scholar from the Big Island of Hawaii who graduated from Harvard with honors. The Fellowship recognized a college-access organization she founded at Harvard for first-generation and low-income students. More than five hundred students have come through that work, many landing at top-twenty institutions. The path from a small town in Hawaii to Cambridge was not obvious. Hope built it anyway, and now she helps students build theirs.

That origin shapes how she works. Hope knows what it feels like to navigate a process designed for people who already know how it works — and she knows what it takes to close the gap without losing oneself in the translation. She is a Harvard Alumni Interviewer, which means she has sat on the other side of the table and evaluated candidates through the same lens admissions committees use. She is also a Gates Scholarship reviewer, editor, and mentor — one of the few consultants who has read applications from inside one of the most competitive scholarship programs in the country and can tell applicants exactly what the committee is looking for, because she has been the committee.

Hope’s deep areas include the UC system — she brings strong fluency in Regents and Chancellor-level scholarship strategy at UC Berkeley and UCLA — along with financial aid, standardized test preparation, and CS and STEM-track applicants. She is especially effective with first-generation students, low-income applicants, scholarship candidates, and high achievers who are sharper than their applications currently suggest — the ones who have the record but not yet the language to make a reader feel it.

Hope is on the younger side of the roster, and for the right student that is a feature. She is close enough to the process to remember what it actually felt like, calm enough to keep the pressure from compounding, and precise enough to know where an essay is losing the room.
