University of Pennsylvania

Sure Penn’s Founder Benjamin Franklin passed away in 1790, but the principals of intellectualism he espoused live on in the hallowed halls of the University of Pennsylvania today, all within a dynamic city environment and with some of the best eating (food trucks mostly) in the U.S. In spite of a somewhat pre-professional feel on campus, current students and alums alike rally whole-heartedly behind Penn for its strong academics, rich extra-curricular offerings, and well-rounded students.

Features

One University

Penn’s One University Policy puts the emphasis on interdisciplinary education. Students are encouraged to pursue joint degrees and are welcome to take classes at many of the Penn’s schools, or even at neighboring schools Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore.

Wharton

If you’re dreaming of working in the business world, the Program in International Studies and Business – offered through the Wharton School – is one of the best undergraduate business programs in the country.

Schools Within The School

Each of Penn’s 12 distinctive residential communities has its own dean, master, advisors, and common amenities. More importantly, though, the house system creates a more intimate community within the larger (and often overwhelming) social scene.

Education Off-campus

Penn's students are proudly engaged in the community both immediately beyond the borders of campus and much further afield. The school offers numerous opportunities to engage in service in West Philadelphia and throughout the city, and boasts the highest number of undergraduate students to study abroad of any Ivy League (roughly 600 Penn undergrads study abroad each semester).
