The Tuesday Q&A: Round 1 or Round 2?

October 11, 2011 :: Admissionado Team

QUESTION:
My Round 1 deadline is in two days but there is NO way I’d be putting my best foot forward by submitting. I know I can do better, but I also wanna hit this deadline. What do I do?

ANSWER:
Now, we all know that Round 1 is better than Round 2, no matter what adcoms tell ya. And along those lines, Early Decision is better than Round 1, no matter what admissions people say.

BUT.

This is NEVER an excuse to submit a less-than-perfect application! What do I mean? Well, let’s say that we have two choices: (1) a B- application in Round One, versus (2) an A+ application in Round 2. To us, folks, this is a no brainer. Submit in Round 2! Round 1 is important, but NEVER more important than putting your best foot forward.

If you can’t make Round 1… so be it! That is NOT the end of the world. Use the extra time making your apps even better. After all, Round 2 exists for a reason. B-schools accept plenty of folks at this stage of the game.

At the end of the day, it’s better to submit a GREAT application than one that’s second-rate… even if it’s R2.

Good luck out there!
