Meet our MBA Consultants: Ben Koren

December 12, 2014 :: Admissionado Team

Each week, we sit down and get to know one of our MBA Consultants.

Ben-KorenNot to brag, but we have an amazing team of people, and there’s more to them than just their top school pedigree or their devilish good looks. When you’re choosing an MBA consultant, you don’t just want someone in your industry or who went to your dream school. You need an MBA consultant who will be able to work with you, connect with you, and push you to be your best… and that’s not the same person for everyone. Some people need an empathetic touch; others need a drill sergeant. That’s why we think it’s so important for you to get to know our guys before you get to work.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Admissionado MBA Consultant Ben Koren.

So Ben, where are you living these days?
Brooklyn, NYs

And your degree is from…
Columbia Business School

Why did you go for an MBA?
I always wanted to start my own company, and I felt that I would benefit from some formal business education. I searched for that big idea during business school, but didn’t find the right one so I got a normal job post graduation (not sure how normal Investment Banking is… but let’s go with it). I found my idea within a year, though, and am now executing on it. Business school definitely helped, both for the education and the network.

What’s your all-time favorite memory from business school?
It’s not so much a particular instance but rather the memories of the people. I made some amazing friends there. The fact that they are all super successful is a bonus.

What do you like most about being an MBA consultant?
The potential to help people realize their dreams. It sounds trite, but business school is a life changing experience for most people. Getting in is a very important part, and if at the end of the day I can say that I helped people reach their potential, then I’m happy.

What’s your most embarrassing moment from school?
Ummmm, I’m pleading the fifth.

Tell us something surprising about you.
I’m allergic to kiwis. I found that out on my first day of work when my face swelled up. That was my first impression at the office. It was not pretty. I also discovered that I love kiwis, which was particularly unfortunate given the circumstances.

What’s the COOLEST place you’ve ever visited?
Has to be the salt flats in Bolivia. It looks like you are on the moon! And it’s cool, literally. Waking up at 4:30AM at 4000 meters altitude on the wind swept altiplano was probably the coldest I have ever felt in my life.
