CollegeGo (from College Board) guides students through the process of finding, applying to, and attending the best college for them.
High school students spend an exorbitant amount of time on their cell phones, so they might as well use that time to do something productive, right?
CollegeGo launched in June 2016 by College Board, is a mobile college planning app that guides students through the process of finding, applying to, and attending the best college for them. Using games, videos and search features, this platform offers a step-by-step guide to help students plan their college journey… on their smart phones! Each step falls into one of five topics:
- Preparing for College
- Discovering Careers
- Finding Colleges
- Affording College
When students purchase the app, they will be able to link to their College Board account and update any information on their BigFuture accounts via their phones. Students can create a list of schools based on their interests, search for scholarships, learn about financial aid, and explore majors and career options.
Like all of College Board’s planning resources, CollegeGo was created using input from admission officers, college counselors, families and students, as well as an online survey completed by nearly 4,000 accredited undergraduate colleges and universities in the U.S.
Like the Coalition platform, CollegeGo is advertised as being especially for underserved and aspiring first generation college students who may lack the necessary resources to help them navigate the college admissions process. However, according to College Board, anyone applying to college can benefit from the app.
Students can download the CollegeGo app from both the Apple Store and Google Play. It has received mixed reviews, with some reporting it to be very helpful and encouraging, while others finding it to be slow and unresponsive.
